Upon reviewing all proposals in the secondary market you may come to a conclusion that the only way to meet your requirements is construction of a new yacht or, perhaps from the very beginning you wished to have a new yacht regardless of boats existing in the secondary market of proposals. It is not a secret that the process of constructing a mega-yacht is more complicated than the search and purchase of an already existing vessel. Ordering even a series-produced yacht has a lot of nuances, and to grasp all of them is a very intricate task even if you have already had the experience in yacht buying and operating. A multitude of details arises which are to be considered and coordinated between a customer and a yard. Apart from basic characteristics like length, width, speed, style (in case with a series-produced yacht a suitable model and manufacturer should be selected) there are specific ones, such as selection of material for hull and topside, propulsion devices, electronics and guidance, creation of architecture and styling, final selection of a yard, where the yacht is to be constructed. |

What type of a yacht you wish to construct and why? Is it worth starting from a conceptual design or from yacht general characteristics? Or perhaps it would be better to select a most reputable shipyard, yet in this case the waiting period for the order might be too long. You have selected a composite hull; shall you need to use sandwich structures or carbon fiber? What characteristics are necessary for a hull portion below the floating line? Which standards should your yacht or mega-yacht comply with, if it is designed for private use and what standards are suitable for a boat intended for charter operations? What materials will be used for manufacturing clear-water reservoirs and which will be applied for sound- and vibration insulation?
All these questions and many others are directly related to project cost and complexity and, by no means, all of them have apparent answers. If you believe that your designer or yard will make all these choices for you, most probably, in the end you will receive an extremely expensive and poorly liquid product.
Even if your motto is "only the best for my yacht" ? in any case you will have to process a big volume of information to choose really the best. And regardless of your decisions you will also have to consider the factor of resale cost. In solving these questions you will be aided by a competent and experienced yacht broker who will save thousands and even millions dollars and months of time for you. Technical knowledge of a broker, his professional background in the construction and lease of such yachts, experience in managing large projects ? all these factors are of great importance for the success of a project as a whole.
